Description:

RLC is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join the growing civil/structural engineering team. This position will entail work on a variety of electric power delivery and renewable generation projects including structural steel and foundation design. This individual must be self-motivated and eager to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Ideally the candidate will have experience with steel buildings and masonry structures.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Prepare plans and specifications for structures and foundations in electric substations, transmission lines, BESS plants, and wind/solar generation plants. 
  • Prepare design criteria, calculations, reports, and other documents.
  • Provide peer review of work by other staff.
  • Serve as lead structural engineer on project teams and as engineer-of-record.
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines.
  • Attend client meetings and project site visits.
  • Prepare proposals and engineering estimates.

Other Functions of Position:

  • Assist project management team on schedule, budget, quality, and other items.
  • Train and mentor junior staff members.
  • Develop and maintain internal design tools, templates, procedures, and other aids.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school. A Master’s Degree in structures is a plus.
  • Seven or more years of experience in structural design practice.
  • Licensed professional engineer willing to obtain licenses in other states as required.
  • Knowledgeable in structural analysis, design of structural steel systems, and design of foundations.
  • Computer skills in the use of AutoCAD, Excel, Mathcad, RISA suite (or other finite element software), and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate within the organization and outside with clients.
  • Based in New England.

Description:

This position involves performing power system analysis and transmission and distribution system planning work in accordance with relevant industry standards, including IEEE, NY-ISO, NEC and NFPA. The incumbent will operate various power system analysis software tools required for performing power system engineering studies and assessments. The role also includes manipulating power system databases and establishing power flow base cases for load-flow, short-circuit, and dynamic stability modeling in both transmission and distribution planning. The position involves using basic and complex power system calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques, as well as the application of advanced mathematical techniques, including differential equations, linear algebra and statistical methods in power system analysis.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Perform Power System Engineering Study and Assessment Duties.
  • Apply knowledge and proficiency in software tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, CYME, and ASPEN to conduct power system engineering studies using. Areas of analysis include load flow for thermal and voltage assessment, fault studies for short circuit assessments, transients for switching studies, and dynamics for transient and steady-state stability assessment.
  • Apply knowledge of power system planning, design, and operation.
  • Prepare and review written reports that explain the purpose, methodology, data requirements, recommendations, and observations of power system engineering studies and assessments.
  • Conduct detailed analyses of three-phase power systems, including load flow, short circuit, stability and reliability studies.
  • Utilize per-unit system modeling techniques for accurate power system analysis and simulation. Analyze results and develop conclusions on power system design problems in both transmission and distribution.
  • Design and evaluate power distribution systems to ensure efficient and reliable delivery of electrical power, to include assessments of existing distribution systems in order to recommend improvements.
  • Analyze the impact of distributed generation and renewable energy sources on power distribution networks.
  • Evaluate system stability, damping and transient performance using advanced simulation tools.
  • Keep the department manager informed of the status of all projects relative to pre-established expectations and meet with clients as needed.
  • Ability to work independently and with others while maintaining a high level of initiative and self-motivation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Must have coursework, research, or experience that includes Power Systems Analysis, Power Distribution, and Analog Circuit Design.
  • Excellent verifiable references required.

Possibility for part-time telecommuting based on performance and company policy. Must be present in a company office at least 2 days per week.
