General Description of Position:
Under immediate supervision of the Manager or other designated professional power system engineer, this position assists power system engineers with analysis and study work. The incumbent must be able to assist in power system database manipulation and capable to learn and understand basic power system calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Ability to learn and operate power system software tools required for performing power system engineering studies. Tools include PSSE, PSLF, TARA, ASPEN, and PSCAD for power flow, stability, and short circuit analyses.
- Establish working knowledge of power system calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques. These include complex power calculations, load flow analysis, system equivalents, short circuit analysis, including balanced and imbalanced fault types, per-unit system calculations, operation of power system protection devices.
- Gather data and perform basic power system database manipulation work required for studies and analyses.
- Assist in power system studies while developing the ability to analyze results.
- Maintain basic understanding of power system analysis tools and their operation.

General Description of Position:
This position is responsible for the facilitation and tracking of new business proposal activities, surveillance and analysis of relevant market factors that impact new business pursuits, and management of vendors and subcontractors utilized by the firm. Equally important responsibilities include oversight and management of administrative internal business processes to ensure a smooth-running operation.
The Business Development (BD) Coordinator will source procurement opportunities and coordinate the preparation and submission of winning proposals. In this role, the BD Coordinator will work with cross-functional proposal team members to help respond to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), Requests for Information (RFI) and management of the proposal development process to ensure on-time delivery of compliant and well-written proposals. This position involves researching, writing, and producing a high volume of client-facing documentation on behalf of our company. This role will successfully communicate and collaborate with a variety of internal stakeholders including Project Managers, Client Managers, Engineering Leads and other subject matter experts, as needed – and thus, is a highly visible role.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversees and provides a consistent structure for proposal development, pipeline tracking, and market analysis that will provide relevant insights to inform new business pursuit activities.
- Ability to prepare and review written proposals for our Power Delivery team as well as RLC’s other business units when needed. Will work to communicate the proposal in various ways, including graphic layouts and PowerPoint presentations.
- Assist with assigned administration functions, i.e. site access controls, meeting minutes, and assist Power Delivery Manager and Project Management Organization (PMO) Manager as required.
- Assist in developing and maintaining business unit metrics associated with corporate goals.
- Assist with data input and maintenance of Ajera (ERP) and Zoho (CRM) to create, monitor and track proposals.

General Description of Position:
RLC is seeking a Civil-Structural Designer to join the growing civil/structural engineering team. This position will entail work on a variety of electric power projects including substations, transmission lines, wind and solar generation plants, and battery storage facilities. This individual must be self-motivated and ready to work with a multi-disciplinary team.
Essential Functions of Position:
- Work closely with engineers to prepare land development plan sets including site/grading plans, stormwater plans, road plans and profiles, sections/details, etc.
- Work closely with engineers to prepare structural drawings for steel structures, buildings, and foundations in accordance with AISC and ACI detailing requirements.
- Apply industry and client-specified drafting standards to prepare drawings.
- Interface with other engineering team members to coordinate civil/structural design with other engineering disciplines.

RLC Engineering is hiring a Finance Manager to join their growing team. RLC is an engineering consulting firm with a team of technical professionals that efficiently plan, design, and engineer for the Power and Electric Utility industries. RLC was founded in 2006 and is a Maine business with over 110 employees and offices in Hallowell, South Portland and Bangor.
RLC is looking to hire a Finance Manager to partner with the CEO and provide strong financial analysis and planning. The Finance Manager will do so by providing financial leadership and decision-making as well as establishing sound and compliant accounting practices for RLC Engineering, LLC as well as subsidiary businesses to the company.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage budgets for each division
- Perform variance analyses on differences between actual and budget performance
- Ensure overall accounting processes and procedures are solid and within appropriate regulations
- Work closely with senior leadership and management to provide financial analytics and support for operations and management of teams, projects and overall company performance
- Perform monthly close and reporting
- Perform cash flow reporting to maximize ROIs

This position performs a substantial role in power system design of electric power distribution, transmission, substation and renewable projects and interfaces directly with clients to establish new projects and to develop proposals in response to requests for work. The incumbent must be competent to operate various CADD processes, line layout equipment plans, substation layout/equipment plans, along with the ability to complete required design calculations and production of both preliminary and final design drawings and documentation. The incumbent must also possess an understanding of both basic and complex electrical engineering calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques and have the ability to train others in design analysis.

RLC Engineering is seeking a Principal Protection Engineer to join their team of professionals. This position will serve as the department’s technical advisor and mentor for other Protection Engineers within the group. The incumbent must be well versed in the Transmission and Distribution protection schemes implemented by the Major New England Utilities and will be responsible for system protection engineering associated with electrical protective relay systems for generation, as well as transmission and distribution systems.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform design studies and demonstrate a good working knowledge of relay protections involving logic diagrams, calculations report, relay database management, and coordination studies.
- Ability to comprehend and apply industry standards used to determine relay settings and develop schematics required in protection and control engineering projects. In addition, work may require development and review of technical specifications, drawings and standards of equipment and projects.

RLC Engineering is seeking a Protection & Controls (P&C) Designer to join their team of professionals. The Designer will work with RLC’s team to develop design construction packages for protective relaying and control systems. The designer will prepare Electrical Schematic Diagrams, Front View Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Bill of Materials, and Cable Schedules by working with a Lead Engineer.
Essential Job Functions:
- Create electrical (AC & DC elementary) schematics from One-Line Diagrams.
- Generate control panel layouts, internal point-to-point wiring diagrams, and interconnection diagrams using CAD software. Design documents will include: protective relays, analog/digital meters, local/remote control devices, annunciators, and SCADA systems.
- Organize and submit design packages to meet project schedules. Work to ensure P&C design deliverables are on time and on budget.
- The ability to learn and apply company, client, and industry design standards and safety codes.
- Demonstrate a superior level of technical work quality though all aspects of design and review.
- Perform peer design reviews and deliverable quality control checks.
- Job may include occasional travel. Varying from one to two weeks per year. The ability to work occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.

General Description of Position:
RLC Engineering is seeking a Senior Protection & Controls (P&C) Designer to join their team of professionals. The Senior Designer will work with RLC’s team to develop design construction packages for protective relaying and control systems. The senior designer will prepare Electrical Schematic Diagrams, Front View Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Bill of Materials, and Cable Schedules by working with a Lead Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Create electrical (AC & DC elementary) schematics from One-Line Diagrams.
- Generate control panel layouts, internal point-to-point wiring diagrams, and interconnection diagrams using CAD software. Design documents will include: protective relays, analog/digital meters, local/remote control devices, annunciators, and SCADA systems.

General Description of Position:
RLC seeks a Senior Level Protection Engineer who will serve as the department’s technical advisor and mentor for other Protection Engineers within the group. The incumbent must be well versed in the Transmission and Distribution protection schemes implemented by the Major New England Utilities.
He/she will be responsible for system protection engineering associated with electrical protective relay systems for generation, as well as transmission and distribution systems with emphasis on technical accuracy and completeness of content, i.e. quality. This includes protective relay design (protective relay one-lines and schematics), transmission and distribution system modeling (ASPEN), protective relay setting coordination, development and calculations. Incumbent is expected to follow client requirements, and internal company quality control and quality assurance practices. He/she is expected to serve as the interface with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically related matters. Expectations also include serving as Lead Engineer or technical reviewer on assigned projects. The designer position at RLC requires the successful candidate to be willing to perform design/cadd services in multiple disciplines. Required for this position is a person who is willing to assume a task-specific and project-support role in engineering design activities related to transmission & distribution projects. The assigned Lead Discipline Engineer will oversee all assigned tasks.
Areas of design responsibility will include, but not be limited to development of design documents and CADD support for line layout/routing and production of both preliminary and final design drawings and documentation.
