General Description of Position:
The Intern Engineer supports one of RLC Engineering’s core technical teams, Power Delivery (including Civil), Power System Studies, and Power Generation, based on the intern’s background and interests. This position provides hands-on experience in consulting engineering within the electric utility industry. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects, gaining exposure to design, analysis, and project coordination while learning how their discipline contributes to the overall power system infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist project teams with engineering design, analysis, and documentation within the assigned department.
  • Support engineers in preparing technical drawings, calculations, specifications, and project reports.
  • Participate in on-site field trips to observe real-world power systems.
  • Contribute to project organization, file management, and quality control processes.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and mentors across disciplines to support project coordination and learning.
  • Engage in RLC’s intern development opportunities, including training sessions, field tours, and professional growth activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or a related Engineering field from an accredited institution.
  • Completed at least two years of coursework in a relevant engineering program.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, or power system modeling tools is a plus.

General Description of Position:
The Project Manager Intern will assist RLC Engineering’s project management team with the coordination and execution of engineering projects. This position offers hands-on experience in the electric utility and renewable energy industries, providing exposure to project scheduling, financial tracking, and client coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and distribute project schedules using Microsoft Project.
  • Assist the Senior Project Manager with project financial tracking and resource forecasting.
  • Attend internal and client meetings to take notes, track action items, and support follow-ups.
  • Generate and distribute project performance reports to team members.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and engineering team leads to submit deliverable packages to clients.
  • Support project documentation and ensure deliverables align with RLC’s standards and timelines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

General Description of Position:
RLC is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join the growing civil/structural engineering team. This position will entail work on a variety of electric power delivery and renewable generation projects including structural steel and foundation design. This individual must be self-motivated and eager to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Ideally the candidate will have experience with steel buildings and masonry structures.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Prepare plans and specifications for structures and foundations in electric substations, transmission lines, BESS plants, and wind/solar generation plants. 
  • Prepare design criteria, calculations, reports, and other documents.
  • Provide peer review of work by other staff.
  • Serve as lead structural engineer on project teams and as engineer-of-record.
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines.
  • Attend client meetings and project site visits.
  • Prepare proposals and engineering estimates.

Other Functions of Position:

  • Assist project management team on schedule, budget, quality, and other items.
  • Train and mentor junior staff members.
  • Develop and maintain internal design tools, templates, procedures, and other aids.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school. A Master’s Degree in structures is a plus.
  • Seven or more years of experience in structural design practice.
  • Licensed professional engineer willing to obtain licenses in other states as required.
  • Knowledgeable in structural analysis, design of structural steel systems, and design of foundations.
  • Computer skills in the use of AutoCAD, Excel, Mathcad, RISA suite (or other finite element software), and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Description
The Manager of Power System Studies at RLC Engineering is both a top-tier technical expert and a strategic leader within the company. This position is responsible for the technical and administrative management of RLC’s Power System Studies group, overseeing high-level project execution, staff development, and engineering processes to ensure RLC’s work aligns with industry standards, client expectations, and corporate objectives. The Manager serves as a thought leader, providing strategic direction, supervising a team of engineers, and representing the company in both client and industry settings.

This person will participate in annual business planning sessions with the senior leadership team to assess RLC Engineering’s weaknesses, strengths, threats and opportunities with the intended outcome of better understanding potential risks and opportunities, reviewing against core competencies of the group, and positioning the company to maximize potential for success.

The Incumbent will manage and maintain business systems including but not limited to reporting of time, invoicing, estimating cost of services, adhering to engineering standards, administering project controls and providing monthly status updates.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Supervise and mentor engineers across multiple project types, including assigning work, managing priorities, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Recruit, train, and retain highly qualified staff; implement professional development and succession planning initiatives.
  • Provide direction for large-scale projects, overseeing the development and execution of power system studies using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, and ASPEN.
  • Ensure QA/QC for deliverables, maintain internal technical standards, and conduct peer reviews.
  • Manage group workload to meet client deadlines efficiently while ensuring high-quality results. This includes team member utilization, work schedules, and department work backlog.
  • Oversee and address project execution, including Work in Progress and Accounts Receivable.
  • Develop proposals, scope of work, and budget estimates that meet contract requirements.
  • Provide clients with status updates, milestone reports, and technical recommendations. Maintain and foster strong client relationships.
